Statement from Father Patrick Desbois, President of Yahad-In Unum, following the terrorist attacks in Paris on November 13, 2015
For over ten years, we have been investigating the shootings of the Einsatzgruppen in the former Soviet countries. Millions of civilians were murdered in the name of Nazi ideology, often by young Europeans, just because they were born Jewish or Roma.
Friday night, right in Paris, young people sitting in cafés or enjoying a show were murdered by their contemporaries in the name of another equally dangerous ideology.
We must, in all circumstances, denounce this new murderous ideology which teaches that, to save the world, one must fire on the crowd or become a suicide bomber.
Naming the disease is the first step to healing.
All my prayers and my affection are with the victims of this barbarity.
I invite everyone, tomorrow and after tomorrow, to fight ISIS's ideology that teaches and leads young people to assassinate in order to improve our world.
Being a responsible person, full of hope but aware of the dangers inherent in certain ideologies is, for tomorrow, the essential condition for a society where every man can fulfill his life without murdering others.
