From November 25 – 27, 20 teachers from around Europe traveled to France to participate in Yahad-In Unum’s three-day teacher training on the Holocaust by bullets, which was hosted in partnership with the Mémorial de Caen. The first day of the seminar was held for the first time at Yahad-In Unum’s new headquarters in Paris and Yahad team members presented on our methodology in the field as well as our archival research work. The group then travelled to the Mémorial de Caen, where presentations ranged from the genocide of the Roma during World War II to how to use Yahad’s educational resources to a guided visit of both the museum and the D-Day landing beaches. Our group was very diverse this year with teachers originating from Hungary, the Republic of Macedonia, Greece, Spain, and Serbia among others. Asked about the significance fo the seminar, Marta Goldmann, a Hungarian teacher stated, “This is a very new and unknown part of the Holocaust that we should talk more about. They are just as important as the crimes and horrors that took place in the concentration camps.”
